Atlantic City Residents Want to Be Sure Their Drapes Are Clean after Water Cleanup?
Getting the right drapes for your Atlantic City home can be surprisingly challenging. First, you have to get the correct dimensions. Then you have to decide on the color, style, and hanging method. It is worth it, of course – drapes are a great addition to any room’s décor and part of your unique decorating style.
Drapes can also be frustrating to clean, due to their size and bulkiness. That is why SERVPRO of Atlantic City / Hamilton / Hammonton includes drapery cleaning as part of our Atlantic City water cleanup service. We know that your main aim after a water disaster is to get your home back the way you like it with the minimum of fuss.
Why is it important to get my drapes cleaned after water damage?
It is natural after water damage to be concerned with floors, rugs, and furniture. However, do not overlook your drapes. Even if only the bottom part of them is affected, it is still essential to clean them, because:
• The water could cause the color to run and ruin the look of your curtains
• Untreated damp materials can develop unpleasant musty odors
• Wet cloth provides a ripe breeding ground for fungal growth
Do I have to take my curtains down before cleaning?
No. In most cases, SERVPRO technicians can clean your drapes while they are still hanging. This is much faster and more convenient for you:
• You do not have to take your drapes down
• You do not have to wash them yourself, which is much better
• You do not have to go to the trouble of taking them to a dry cleaning service
• You do not have to hang temporary window covers
What methods does SERVPRO use for cleaning drapes?
We have two main methods for washing curtains.
Machine dry cleaning is the most convenient and effective method in most water cleanup situations. It is suitable for light to moderate soiling. The technician will use an upholstery dry cleaning machine to treat the drapery with a suitable dry cleaning solvent. Then they vacuum away cleaning residues and dirt. If any areas are more heavily soiled, we can use spot cleaning products to get out more stubborn residues.
We put down protective cloths before we start, to protect the walls and floor from over splash.
Our technicians might, more rarely, use hot water extraction. This is more common in commercial water cleanup situations, but we can use it in domestic cases with heavier soiling. The machine pushes water and a cleaning solution into the drapes at high pressure, and then a SERVPRO technician vacuums the drapes to draw out water and dirt.
What about the fixtures and fittings?
We aim to clean curtains without disturbing the fixtures and fittings. However, if the hanging rod is particularly soiled or damaged, our teams can take it down and clean it. We might need to remove the rod in some cases, but we will put it back afterward.
If your drapes have a pelmet or valance, we might need to remove this to get to the drapery behind it. We can also clean the valance before hanging it up again.
What about color bleeding?
SERVPRO knows that color bleeding is a severe concern when cleaning textiles. Color bleeding will ruin the look of your drapes, and you will need to replace them. We guard against color runs by pre-testing your drapes before applying any cleaning methods. We test an inconspicuous corner and let it dry to observe it at each drying stage.
Can you help dry my drapes too?
Yes – drying is an essential part of curtain cleaning. Drapes that are left wet offer a breeding ground for fungus. Our technicians use air movers and fans to dry the area around your drapes and encourage the material to dry. We also use dehumidifiers to reduce moisture in the surrounding air and can bring in portable heaters if necessary.
What about leftover odors?
No one wants their home to smell damp. Thankfully we can treat odors with a choice of methods:
• Using air scrubbers to filter the air and remove bad smells
• Injecting deodorizing agents directly into materials
• Placing odor-collecting pellets nearby
Our team can also advise you on a range of topical treatments that we can apply to your drapes after cleaning. These include soil protectants, stain resisters, and antistatic formulations, to keep your curtains looking and smelling great.
We aim to leave your home, “Like it never even happened.” That means clean, dry drapes, and no musty smell. Our team is available 24 hours a day, and no job is too small. If your drapes need cleaning, call SERVPRO of Atlantic City / Hamilton / Hammonton at (609) 965-0885.
